Volunteer Testimonials

Our Volunteers are integral part of the team at TWH

Volunteering at our care home is a meaningful way to make a real difference in the lives of our residents. By sharing your time, compassion, and companionship, you become an important part of our extended care community. Whether through conversation, activities, or simply being present, our volunteers help create moments of connection, joy, and comfort that truly enrich daily life.

We are humbled, proud and grateful  for the time and dedication our Volunteers provide to our residents.

If you have time to spare and would like to join our volunteer team in making a difference, please contact us @enquiries@twhnh.com

"My mother was a resident for almost 18 months before her death in September 2015 and since then, I’ve continued to visit and volunteer at the White House, so I’ve experienced their care as a relative and a volunteer.

The White House is an integral part of the local community, as illustrated by their awards and events that are held in their car park.  Friends and family are invited, as are passers-by and neighbours. Anyone can drop in and enjoy the entertainment and interact with the residents as well as other guests. The lady living next door to the White House was curious about what was happening one day, and so much so, she became a regular volunteer.

The White House residents are often visible in the wider community, thanks to the frequent minibus trips to parks, garden centres, and many other venues.  The Home arranges summer gatherings in the local park, transporting as many residents as possible for a picnic afternoon, when they can watch other park users exercise their dogs and young children, enabling them to partake in ‘normal’ activities residents wouldn’t otherwise enjoy."

I’ve been taking part in Adopt a Grandparent for just over a month now and am approaching my fifth call with Ann. I can completely understand how the experience might feel nerve-racking at first, naturally I worried whether we’d have anything to talk about, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I really look forward to catching up with Ann each week. We have a good laugh together, and I genuinely enjoy our chats. Ann is kind, interesting, loves to chat, and is very funny, it’s such a pleasure hearing about her week.

If anyone is considering volunteering, I couldn’t recommend it enough. The staff are fantastic (A special shoutout to Laura at The White House who supports Ann with these calls); they guide you through everything while also being amazing at what they do. I’ve really loved building this relationship with Ann, and it’s been wonderful to see all the activities and initiatives the home provides for residents, from jam making and live singers to knitting. It’s clear the home is dedicated to supporting and enriching the lives of its residents.

Thank you for giving me the chance to share this, I’m so glad to be part of this program!

“Volunteering at The White House has been an incredibly rewarding journey that allowed me to give back to the community while supporting some of the most lovely yet vulnerable groups of people.

I received immense support from the Activities Coordinator, Indre, with whom I worked closely to curate meaningful experiences for the residents. Every visit did not feel like just another "volunteering day", but a fun get-together where everyone involved had a great time.

One of the most fulfilling aspects was the opportunity to meet such a diverse group of people. Beyond the wonderful team, I formed genuine, individual friendships with the residents and loved listening to their unique personal histories full of wisdom and experience. Whether it was through baking sessions, physical activities that got everyone moving, or the themed monthly Morning Tea, the atmosphere was always full of life.

Working alongside such a dedicated and friendly team has left a lasting impression on me, reinforcing the importance of empathy and compassion in community care. These values were foundational in my journey to medical school, and I intend to carry them forward as I care for my future patients, ensuring that human connection remains at the heart of care.” -

"It has been such a special experience to volunteer with my dog, Sunny at The White House Nursing Home. To see the way the residents' faces light up when he arrives makes me so proud of him. Sunny has played a huge part in improving my own mental health and wellbeing, so to be able to share the joy he brings with others is a truly wonderful experience.

I love to see him interact with the residents as they pet him and offer him treats. He loves to show off all his tricks (for more treats!) and in turn, I enjoy listening to the residents share memories of their pets with me. I truly believe in the value we can all gain from socialising with people from different generations and walks of life, as well as the soothing comfort that interacting with animals and nature can give us all.

I always look forward to our time at The White House Nursing Home and really hope the residents enjoy our visits as much as we do."
