Co-Director Rahim Nurmohamed was privileged to be invited to be part of the launch of the Merton Chamber of Commerce SME Exchange Networking Evening with their first event showcasing small/medium businesses on their Sustainability journey.

-
Rahim was part of an established SME business panel who were invited to share their tips and advice on sustainability and green initiatives. The panel was made up of:
• Brendan O'Shea, CEO, Just Clear®
• Ruchi Aul, Founder, Knowmera
• Rahim Nurmohamed, Director, The White House Nursing Home
• Bernice Choo, Marketing Strategist, Business Clan
Rahim shared his vision and journey on how The White House has implemented steps to reduce its carbon footprint as well as practical tips with local businesses on becoming more resilient and sustainable, highlighting that while some initiatives do require investment, many impactful changes can start with simple, affordable steps such as LED lighting, PIR detectors, or heat reflectors.
He shared with the audience how, at the White House, we also place importance on recycling and waste management. With around 10 different recycling bins across the home, we are conscious that even sustainable actions carry costs. Our focus is therefore on being both environmentally responsible and efficient in the way we embed sustainability into daily operations.
As part of our journey, we undertook an Energy Audit in 2024/25, and we were delighted to welcome a group of Kingston University MSc Environmental Management students, who carried out a full environmental audit earlier this year. They were impressed by the progress made and the commitment shown by our team.
Looking ahead, our next milestone will be to achieve the Green Mark Certificate in the coming months — a reflection of our ongoing pledge to sustainability.
The future at The White House is indeed bright — and, we hope, a little greener too.
