The above is certainly true of Vince who has been an integral part of TWH team for over 30 years. He has overseen the expansion of TWH from a 4 bedroom home to a modest 12 bed conversion in the 1980's and then to the 3 story 30 bed Home it is today. The Care Home Heroes awards shine the spotlight on people who get on with their jobs unseen and unheard and with over 420 entrants, we are delighted that Vince has been given the well deserved recognition of a Care Hero. The recognition is as a result of all Vince's incredible caring, team and work ethos - he has been ready and available for the simple tasks of dropping in for urgent prescriptions in the evening, to the more complex task of some detective work in locating a residents wish to be reunited with her son ... to the more dramatic interrupting of a ministers church meeting to ensure a resident was administered their last rites! Vince is also a gifted carpenter and has turned his hand to many valuable projects including refurbing our top floor sensory lounge, constructing a "bar" for residents to enjoy and a COVID safe visiting pod when needed. Even though he has had challenges with his health he does everything with willingness and heart. He regularly helps the Activity Team with trips out to get residents on and off the van. and can often found behind the BBQ at parties making sure there is food for everyone.
The Care Hero awards took place at the Care Managers show at the NEC in Birmingham on the 30th June and unfortunately although Vince could not pick up the award himself, both Ajitha and Salima were in attendance to pick up the prize presented by Davina McCall, which included a bottle of champagne and a £250 voucher, on Vince's behalf.
There will be a full feature on Vince in the September version of the Caring Times editorial which we look forward to sharing with you. Our sincere thanks go to Caring Times and the Care Managers Show team for affording Vince this incredible award, and above all to Vince himself for his unmatchable service and dedication to the Home.
